Albania has a total area of 28.748 km² and about 2,8 million inhabitants, of which 900.000 live in the capital, Tirana.
Tirana is the most important economic centre of the country. Besides Tirana, the capital, the main cities are Durrës, Vlorë, , Elbasan, Korçë, and Fier.
Albania is not a rich country compared to the European average, however it is making a transition towards a market economy.
In 2014 Albania was officially granted the candidate status to the European Union, opening the door to financing designed to adjust the country to the European standards in the wide variety of areas.
